our actions
Find all the details of our environmental actions in the list below:
Sunny Side of the Doc encourages international participants to come from Paris by train rather than taking a connecting flight to nearby airports. For transportation in La Rochelle, Sunny Side of the Doc rents about 100 bikes from the city bike sharing system and lets participants use them for free.
Participants can also go back and forth from the venue to the city center for free by using a solar-propelled ferry. Since the train station is in the heart of La Rochelle and close to most hotels and the venue, we encourage walking and do not normally provide any shuttle, except in specific circumstances.
100% of the official Sunny Side of the Doc vehicle fleet will be electric or hybrid cars.
Since 2020, Sunny Side of the Doc has taken significant steps towards reducing its environmental impact by drastically decreasing the amount of printed materials (PEFC-certified printing of the few essential paper documents). By adopting a digital-first approach, the organization is able to provide attendees with all the necessary information and resources through online platforms, minimizing paper waste and promoting sustainable practices. This commitment to environmental responsibility reflects Sunny Side of the Doc's dedication to creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future for the documentary industry.
We have provided our caterers with a set of specifications that emphasize the importance of offering fresh, seasonal produce sourced from local suppliers with short circuits. We have also requested that they prioritize vegetarian options in their menu to reduce the environmental impact of meat production.
We have made the decision to use mainly locally-sourced and European-made goodies. In addition to this, we have asked all of our partners to drastically reduce the amount of goodies they provide at the market. By doing so, we hope to minimize the amount of waste generated and reduce our impact on the environment.
Plastic Bottles have been banned from Sunny Side of the Doc. Plastic bottles are a major source of pollution and can take hundreds of years to decompose, posing a serious threat to the environment and wildlife. We encourage all attendees to bring their reusable water bottles to the event or invite them to use our returnable eco-cups.
Sunny Side of the Doc is proud to offer 15 waste collection and sorting channels, which include over 10 options for upcycling and recycling. Attendees can easily dispose of various items such as paper, plastic bottles, cans, cardboard cups, corks, bio-waste, scraped cotton, carpet, tarpaulin, oyster shells, Covid masks, cigarette butts, batteries, aluminium coffee capsules, and even all waste.
To further promote sustainability, the organizers will also be collecting printed badges, plastic bags, and necklaces at the end of the event for recycling or reuse. This initiative will help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
Moreover, to minimize the environmental impact of the event, the organizers have opted for PEFC-certified printing of the few essential paper documents. This certification ensures that the paper used comes from sustainably managed forests. By implementing these measures, the event is doing its part in creating a more eco-friendly and sustainable environment.
